It wouldn't hurt to also have access to this (and Sync Select for that matter) via scripting functions which return the number of items selected. This way might also need an include/ignore Folders option since it offers the computationally slow size as a criteria. In the last four cases I think selecting the first item that matches the criteria is acceptable, instead of selecting all items that match. So Biggynuff would do: First in Group with Invert and Across All Groups checked, to select all but the first item in all groups. In All Groups (Make the selection(s) in every group instead of just the focused one.) () First in Group (based on current sort) Which opens a dialog, similar to Panes | Sync Select, where the user must pick one of: I think a better solution would be: Edit | Select | Select in Group.

I don't like this, and not just because it sounds so darn awkward, but because I doubt I'm the only one that uses modification time to determine which duplicates to remove. Has to be used with care, add a health warning, but this is the way just about all dupe finding software I've ever seen works.Īdmin wrote:I will add this "quick selection of all but the first", after all it's you who deletes the files. If this is possible a quick dupe search, followed by auto-selecting the not needed dupe files then a quick delete and a much cleaner hard drive! select all but the first item in each individual group?

Would it be possible to add a 'simple' command to automatically select either the first item in each separate group, or the inverse of that i.e. (I'm a photographer - I tested one folder of images I knew had unwanted dupes and found over 200 groups). The search function returns a list of all the dupes in groups, but it's a manual task to go through them to select files for deleting. I imagine that most users would want to find dupes for the same reason I do - so I can delete them! I'd used freeware software for this in the past, but having this function in XY is a dream. I've played with the dupe finder and it's superb.
